My results are below. While I know Romney and I agree, I was really uncomfortable about what I might have in common with Obama. (There are a few issues I am still deciding on and when I adjusted those answers, I supported Mitt 95%, Paul 87% and Obama 9%. That alone should help me make up my mind!) It also demonstrates the overlap between Romney and Paul. Those saying they are polar opposites really misunderstand one or both of their views.

I took the quiz too, but I got 96% Romney and 31% Obama. Some of the questions are highly misleading, and some of the answers are designed to seem "mean." I have seen this done many times, so it did not sway me, but if you are not used to this it will.
ReplyDeleteFor example, one question was "should we end the war in Afganistan?" A better version of this question would be "Are you OK with losing the war in Afganistan?" because quitting is losing, right? Another was "Should the federal government allow the death penalty?" This is not in the federal government's power, as per Supreme Court decisions. And then there is "Should the U.S. have bailed out the major banks during the financial crisis of 2008?" Well, the bailout was only needed because of government regulations. All that was needed was a relaxation of the mark-to-market regulations, and the bailout would have been a moot point.
"Should the federal government regulate the internet to deter online piracy?" The real question here is Should the federal government regulate the internet? Piracy is already illegal, "regulation" to "deter" is just a thinly disguised power grab.
"Should we expand or dismantle our Medicare program?" Well they did give some other choices here besides expand or dismantle, but the choice of "keep as is" is not really an option. Neither is expand. Reform or dimantle are the only two real options.
"Should the U.S. intervene in the affairs of other countries?" Well, this is tricky. If we ignore them, they become like North Korea or Somalia. We need to reach out and help other countries, mostly through economic means - setting up businesses, promoting trade, etc. Is this intervention? Or is intervention only military? Should we try to help out citizens of other countries who are trying to gain freedom? Maybe not militarily, but in some way? See how the answer changes if you rephrase the question?
"Should illegal immigrants working in the U.S. be granted temporary amnesty?" The question to ask here is would this encourage more illegal immigration? Of course it will. Another question to ask would be will this piss off immigrants who came here legally? You betcha. I've met more than a few.
"Do you support affirmative action programs?" Affirmative action is basically racist. Bush called it "the soft bigotry of lowered expectations." A non race-based approach would be much better.
"Are you in favor of decriminalizing all drugs?" Another tricky one. Remove the word "all" replace it with "some" and see if Obama's answer changes.
"Should corporations and unions be permitted to fund broadcast advertisements backing political candidates through political action committees (Super PACS)?" Obama answered yes to this? He chastised the Supreme Court in a full session of congress over this. On national TV. But now they say he is for it?
"How should the U.S. deal with Iran?" This was funny. Romney and Obama gave the same exact answers, but the results said I agreed with Obama, but not Romney.
"Should foreign terrorism suspects be given constitutional rights?" They said Obama answered no to this? Are you serious? Has no one been paying the least bit of attention? He fought for years to get them trials in domestic courts. This is an obvious and outright lie.
"Should the government raise the federal minimum wage?" They say Obama said no!?!? He DID raise the minimum wage, and would do it again if he could. The result was a massive jump in unemployment for unskilled workers. Like college students.
"Should able-bodied, mentally capable adults who receive welfare be required to work?" This requirement was instituted under Clinton and is still law. Obama has just decided to not enforce it. Maybe a better question is "Should the President follow the law?"
Somethin' ain't right here.....just sayin'.
You my friend, are a jackass.
