Don't Be Fooled, Trump Is Very Smart
Trump is smarter than we all take him for. Not that I ever thought he was dumb, but can anyone believe that all of the candidates are visiting him, one by one? He has inserted himself into this election cycle in a way that no one would have guessed. As the candidates make their way to New York to meet with the king-maker, we are all on the edge of our seats to see who he will endorse. His little play is working just as he wanted.
As for the candidates, why are they playing along? Are they courting him because they believe him to be a true confidant? No. Do they all think that he's the guy with the ideas to fix America? No. Do they think that anything that he said when he was pretending to be thinking about running for President was usable or even coherent? No, not at all.
They are all flocking to him for one reason - money. They know that he has a loud voice and he backs it up with good, hard cash. He has the ability to bring in those folks who pay less attention to the day-to-day of politics and are more interested in the emotional connection of supporting someone who brings the bravado and fame and excitement that Trump brings. When Trump finally does make an endorsement (and he will, believe you me, because he wants to stay in the middle of this), there are lots of barely-awake "independents" who will suddenly have chosen their candidate. And, the dollars will start flowing in to that nominee like never before.
And Trump, the puppet-master, will be very pleased.

Is Anyone Really Surprised About Solyndra?
I know I should be shocked by the details coming out regarding
the Administration’s dealings with the now-failed Solyndra. I know that
the crony, inner-workings of Obama’s White House should have me up in
arms. But, I’m not. I’m not even the slightest bit
surprised. What did we all think was
happening with the stimulus money? What
kind of people did we think Obama had brought with him to the White House?
Why Perry Must Be The Nominee
It is an uphill battle for Governor Perry at this point. But, for those of us that are true
conservatives, he is our only hope for getting someone with our belief-system
in the White House.
First, let’s review what conservatives are looking for. We want a bleeding heart, from-the-gut,
conservative. Our disagreements with
Obama in policy go deeper than just having a differing opinion; in fact it goes
much deeper than that. Conservatives
know that our rights are not given to us by the government; they are given to
us by God. Governments should never
decide what freedoms are assigned to people; governments are created by the
people to protect rights that we already have, endowed by our Creator. This is, in its purest sense, the difference between conservatives and liberals. From
this core belief flows the entire premise of conservatism – small government,
free markets, low taxes, strong national defense, the right to life, and so on.
Obama has demonstrated that he does not hold this point of
view. When you strip away his policies
down to their underlying core, it is clear that he believes that governments
grant freedom and liberty to people.
And, as he has also demonstrated, they have the right to take away those
rights. Consider his so-called solutions to our problems: tax more, regulate more, choose winners and losers in business, etc. Those are his answers. The government is the solution to every problem, the government is all-knowing, all-doing, and capable of making better decisions than individuals.
So, why is Perry our only hope for a true conservative? Well, let’s start with
Romney. Romney is a savvy politician and
one of the brightest candidates in the race (second probably to Gingrich). Yet, Romney has not articulated the
principles of conservatism as I’ve stated above as his premise for
decision-making. He is a pragmatist. He is a solution-finder. This is great in business, but in business,
you are not dealing with people’s liberty and freedom. You are playing a different type of function. I firmly believe that Romney would be an
excellent Secretary of the Treasury, but a defender of liberty? A staunch conservative he is not. I'm not saying he is Obama at all, but I am saying that his underlying point of view is not based on the same premise that drives conservatives to our beliefs; he is based in logic and sound decision-making, the kind of logic you use when you balance your checkbook. But, I've never heard him articulate that excessive taxes equate to bondage or that a large government is a theft of our freedom. He talks about taxes and excessive government as a reason for our bad economy. Okay, that's fair, but it is actually much, much deeper than that. So, for us conservative purists, he leaves us wanting.
So, that leaves us with Perry. Yes, there are others – Gingrich, Cain,
Bachmann, but, none of these will be elected (not going into detail why right
now as I’ve done this is past posts). Why Perry? Perry
is a Pro-Life (not conveniently pro-life like Romney), Pro-states’ rights,
pro-small government, pro-death penalty, pro-Israel, pro-personal
responsibility, pro-individual liberty, pro-Judeo-Christian values, pro-2nd
amendment conservative. He's not afraid to talk about Christianity. His conservatism
is more pure and more far-reaching than Romney’s. He is not perfect, but no one is, and he is miles ahead of Romney.
Therefore, I hold out hope that he can win the nomination. I
would rather have a rough-around-the-edges conservative who sometimes says the
wrong thing and speaks from the heart than a polished, slick candidate who
doesn’t have conservatism at his core.
Yes, if Romney wins the nomination, I will fight for him to
be elected. He is exponentially better than Obama. But, a part of me will be
disappointed that we didn’t take this opportunity to find a President who is a true conservative.

This Is The Real Problem With Romney
Unfortunate video here showing his flip-flopping on social issues over the past several years. This is a real problem for him. Right here, right now, in the world of Obama, people want a true conservative, and Romney is not one.

My Thoughts On GOP Candidates After Weekend In Orlando
After spending 3 days in Florida and after seeing the presidential candidates at 4 different events, I’ve definitely been able to get insight above and beyond what we see on TV sound bites. I have become more favorable on a couple of them than I was in the past. Here are my overall thoughts on the candidates based on what I’ve seen this weekend:
Mitt Romney – He made his case very, very well this weekend. He went deeper than simply saying, “I’m a business guy.” He discussed specifics such as the value of incentives and gave an example of a time as a Massachusetts governor when he found out that the state was paying for all homeless people who showed up at homeless shelters after the shelters were full to go to hotels for the night. And, he mentioned that this was over 500 hotel rooms a night that the state was paying for. The only criterion was that you come after the shelter is full, and you get a hotel. Romney new that word was getting out about this and that’s why so many rooms were being rented. So, he changed the incentive and said that if the shelters filled up, the hotel rooms would go to those that showed up first instead of last. And, guess what? The number of hotel rooms the state rented per night went to zero. I thought this was a great particular example of why a businessman makes a great executive leader. I think he needs to keep bringing out these examples, because they show the connection between his public and private experience at the executive level that would great help our nation.
Rick Santorum – I can barely think of a time that I have heard such pure, solid conservative values articulated as well as his speeches this weekend. He really gets it. I wish his campaign was getting more attention. I think his problem is presence more than anything else. He looks younger than he is. Also, he has never been a governor or executive. Maybe there is a name recognition issue also. I wish his campaign would pick up, though; he has a lot of great things to say. Santorum has been able to distinguish himself in making the best argument. He spoke about the fact that the rights we have are given from God and protected by government, that society should be run from the ground up, that parents are responsible for educating their children, and so on. He has a vision for society that fits in line with myself and most conservatives – Christian, not burdened by a large government and free.
Michele Bachmann – She really gives a strong speech and I see her as a great issues-candidate. I’ve always supported her positions, but after this weekend, I still don’t see her as a President. She is so passionate and should be out there fighting for positions, but serving as an executive? She hasn’t made that case to me. I also want to advise her to not yell so much in her speeches. It creates a great sound-bite, but it comes across as shrill. I’d rather have her just talk to us about the depth about her positions. I need to hear a little more from her, also. She talks about repealing Obamacare, sticking to the Constitution, etc. Okay, okay, we get it. But, what are you going to do?
Rick Perry – Perry is the greatest disappointment to me this weekend. I live in Texas and just like TX, Perry is almost bigger than life. He has a strong reputation and Texans love him or hate him, but rarely are ambivalent. I wanted to come here and see the Perry that Texans love show up and make his case. However, he hasn’t done that – at all. Besides embarrassing himself at the debate, he gave mild-mannered speeches here in Orlando. Where’s his fire? Where’s the passion? Also, please articulate why you are running. I don’t think his campaign has to be over as some are saying, but he needs to take a long, hard look at his campaign. I do want to say in talking to the Florida delegates and others here that people want to love him. They see him as the anti-Romney and are prepared to give him the benefit of a doubt, but he has to give them something to go on, and he was not able to do that this weekend.
Herman Cain – Wow!! He can give a speech! And, there is a lot of wisdom in everything that he says. What an amazing individual. I don’t think people will be able to support someone who has never held office to become President, so I don’t see him getting the nomination, no matter what he does. But, he has kept the debate strong, he is a great conservative, and he is a great example, I think, for other men and women working in the private sector who want to make a difference. And, he won the straw poll, so I may very well be wrong about his ability to win the nomination. I would love to see him go toe to toe with Obama.
Jon Huntsman – Yawn. He was the only candidate to not attend the pre-debate rally for whatever reason. He did have some guts at CPAC to acknowledge that there are differences between some of his views and most conservatives’ views (namely offering civil unions and supporting the theory of evolution and global warming). He seems to be running with the idea that we should vote for him because he can get the most independents and Democrats. However, he has not convinced us why he isn’t running on one of those tickets.
Newt Gingrich – What a brain! Everyone I talked to agrees that he is the smartest one in the race, and I did meet a woman who supports Gingrich instead of Perry now that she was disappointed in him, but other than these types of anecdotes, I didn’t find very many people who actually want to vote for him. His intelligence is not translating into electability.
Ron Paul – what can I say? Ron Paul is nothing if not consistent. There are people that love him, and others that are scared as he gains steam. He does not come across as authoritative or presidential, though most think he is spot-on when it comes to issues of liberty. But, everyone cringes when he speaks about foreign policy. Ron Paul didn’t have any gaffes this weekend, and he definitely was true to his beliefs. But, I talked to different folks who believe that he is the worst person to go against Obama.
As of right now, it is still anyone’s game. Perry is the one many are watching, but given their disappointment in him, they are also looking around for another conservative. As for me, I still have hope that Perry can pull this off, but I am looking much more closely at Santorum. He really made a great case about why he is the most pure conservative in the race.
That's my summary, but look for much more videos and pictures!

Chris Christie Rethinking Presidential Bid
Top insiders say that the pressure Chris Christie is getting from donors and supporters is causing him to take a second look at running for president in 2012. This addition could seriously shake things up. With Rick Perry's quick descent, Christie could be the biggest challenge for Mitt Romney. Chris Christie is touted as a passionate conservative who is strong, capable, and articulate. I think many Republicans thought they would see this in Perry but his poor performance in the last few debates have left people wanting and created a hole that Christie could fill. Sources say Christie will make his decision within days and weeks.

Video Of Rick Perry CPAC Speech The Day After The GOP Debate
I sat today in anticipation at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando to see what kind of speech Perry would give the very next day after he performed so terribly in the debate the night before. Interestingly enough, he did address it to some extent saying that we should not only be electing the best debater:
Rick Perry discusses Obamacare:
Here he discusses his boyhood and some of the problems facing America:
So, it was an okay speech, but still seems scripted and not authentic. I don't think he got too much support back after his performance here in front of the same crowd last night in Orlando. However, he is speaking again tomorrow to all the Florida delegates and I will bring you clips of that speech as well. Will he be able to pull himself up and win the Florida straw poll? We'll find out tomorrow.

Open Letter To Governor Perry
Dear Governor Perry,
You came into the 2012 race for President with a lot of excitement and bravado. I, for one, looked forward to your candidacy and was happy to have another strong conservative in the race. However, after 3 GOP debates, you have proven to disappoint.
I write this letter as a lover of conservative values. I am a passionate person who looks for that same passion in leadership. I’ve seen this from you in the past and believe that this is the key ingredient that could excite the whole country around you. However, you need to re-think your message, and I would like to offer my advice.
Conservatives want someone who can articulate conservative values with clarity and fervor. You don’t have to just give us platitudes with a southern twang. Conservatism is right on its own merit, and the candidate that can articulate why is going to be the one who gets the nomination.
So, looking at your campaign thus far and especially your performance in the first few debates, I offer you the following advice with the true hope that will read this and use it to your advantage.
1) Fire your speech-writer and debate strategist. Whoever is giving you advice on what points to make and how to respond to criticism from other candidates has proven him/herself not up to the task.
2) Stop getting defensive about other candidates picking on you in debates. Guess what? If you go up against Obama, it will be much, much worse. Show everyone that you are up to the fight. Ronald Reagan took on criticism with a twinkle in his eye and a love for the process. Instead of saying you are being treated like a piñata, say, “I’m glad I get the chance to talk about my background and why I would be the best President.”
3) Stop saying, “I will always err on the side of life” and don’t get defensive when the vaccine issue gets brought up over and over again. That’s how it is in presidential races; the same things will be discussed multiple times. Every time it comes up, show humility, state again that you made a mistake, and then turn the attention to what really matters – defeating Obama. Michelle Bachmann would have you believe that this is as bad as Obamacare, and you need to be able to articulate why it isn’t.
4) Please defend the crony capitalism charge. I pray that it isn’t true, so tell us why it isn’t. This charge from Bachmann is the most insulting one she has leveled at you. Come out and tell us that you were not in bed with Merck. Voters will buy the “I made a mistake” rhetoric more than they will ever elect someone who is influenced by top donors.
5) Treat each debate and appearance as though no one in the audience has heard you speak before. I’m currently in Orlando and have seen all the candidates speak multiple times this weekend. And, each candidate comes out and makes his or her case from the beginning about why we should vote for him or her. You have not made that case. You are talking about how you grew up and then giving us high-level platitudes on cutting the government. This is not bad, per se, but you need to specifically articulate why you are better than the others who all believe these same things. What is your niche? Romney has job-creation; Bachmann has constitutional conservatism, what is the defining issue in the Perry campaign? Decide what it is, and then drive it home every chance you get.
6) Keep reminding everyone that you have 10 years of executive experience. Romney is getting in jabs that you don’t have private experience. The come-back to that is that you have spent 10 years as an executive of a large state and that you know how to lead. This is also how you should respond to the issue about tuition with children of illegals. You were governor and the legislature said it wanted this. You believe in the power of people to choose for themselves how to manage local issues. You knew, as an executive, that signing this bill was the will of the people and you support the right of other states to make decisions based on what they believe. Bachmann has never been a state executive and you need to keep making that distinction. She can champion issues all she wants, but being an executive means listening and deciding accordingly. That’s what you did, and that will speak to the majority of Republicans.
7) Come up with a bold plan on what you would do once in office. The fact that you were late to the campaign compared to others means that they have had time to be much more specific with their plans of action. I have yet to see or hear anything specific from you. Please get your policy-people working on something to present out to us voters who are hungry for details. And, again, make it unique. Gingrich’s contract is a great example of a unique and powerful idea that gives him a platform to be specific while helping the voters see that he has really thought his candidacy through.
8) Keep surprising us. Thank you for going to New York and standing up for Israel. Thank you for calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme. You have a passion that is attractive to voters. Don’t let your handlers tell you to tone it down. You do need to continue to refine it, but don’t mute it so much that your excitement and drive is not detectable. Mature it, hone it, focus it, but don’t squelch it.
Governor, with the right approach, you could go all the way. You have a lot of clean-up to do, but I believe that it is still early enough to overcome the poor showings in the debates (even the disastrous Orlando debate). How you proceed from here will be a testament to the kind of candidate you are, your commitment, your drive, and your resilience. Do you have it in you?
Please take these suggestions to heart, take some time to re-think your campaign, and show us that you have the guts to get the job done.

FoxNews/Google Republican Debate
FoxNews/Google Republican Debate: Pretty good debate. The questions seemed pretty probing - better than in past debates. Topics ranged from the economy to immigration and foreign affairs.
Overall performance:
Cain - strong showing! Hands down winner. Great emotional response. Said he'd turn the country around by promoting economic growth
Newt - Consistent. Most chosen as running mate by other candidates, if that had to choose tonight. Best line of the debate that we all agree with, "Nothing will turn America around more than Election Night when Barack Obama loses decisively."
Romney - Maintained lead. Fumbled a little in responses. Seemed more at ease challenging opponents and less stiff than in the past. Time to drop SS argument.
Santorum - Really went after Perry, showed strong mind and good knowledge.
Perry - Couldn't get a sentence out to save his life. It was hard to watch. Positions looked wimpy and unclear. Tried to engage Romney in intellectual battles without having the knowledge. His strength is passion and fire and both were absent.
Paul - Consistent without making fringe statements.
Bachmann - Didn't have major presence. Should drop the Gardasil argument. You've beaten it down.
Gave a shallow answer to what you would do to turn country around. Answer: repeal Obamacare. That in and of itself is not enough.
Huntsman - Tried to be funny...again. Jokes failed to be funny...again. Had one strong statement but overall doesn't belong on stage.
Johnson - Good effort, fella.
Worst moment of the night: Crowd booing American soldier who was gay.

Obama Joke
I have to thank Josef for this. I find this SO funny, I laugh out loud each time I read it. I don't know who originated this joke, but if you do, let me know so I can give credit.
It's funny because it's true!!!Obama goes to a primary school to talk to the kids to get a little PR. After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his hand and Obama asks him his name.
" Walter," responds the little boy.
"And what is your question, Walter?"
"I have 4 questions:
“First, why did the USA Bomb Libya without the support of the Congress?
“Second, why do you keep saying you fixed the economy when it's actually worse?
“Third, why did you say that Jeremiah Wright was your mentor, then said that you knew nothing about his preachings and beliefs?
“Fourth, why are we so worried about Brazil drilling for oil, but we aren't allowed to?"
Just then, the bell rings for recess. Obama informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess.
When they resume Obama says, "OK, where were we? Oh, that's right: question time. Who has a question?"
Another little boy puts up his hand. Obama points him out and asks him his name.
"Steve," he responds.
"And what is your question, Steve?"
“Actually, I have 6 questions.

“Third, why did you say that Jeremiah Wright was your mentor, then said that you knew nothing about his preachings and beliefs?
“Fourth, why are we so worried about Brazil drilling for oil, but we aren't allowed to?
“Fifth, why did the recess bell go off 20 minutes early? And…
“Sixth, what the heck happened to Walter?"

John King Can Barely Contain His Bias
I watched John King on CNN this evening. I don't usually watch his show, but I was at the gym and it was on, so what are you going to do? He spent his show slamming Rick Perry for questioning the President's Middle Eastern policies today in New York.
For folks who haven't heard, the Palestinians are appealing to the United Nations to recognize them as a sovereign entity. From VOANews.com:
The Palestinians are taking their statehood bid to the United Nations this week. Palestinian leaders plan to ask the world body for full status as a state, though that has already been assured a block by the United States. Still, Palestinian leaders say, they are undeterred. After years of holding talks with Israel in a bid to gain statehood, the Palestinians have decided on a different strategy. They say they are going to the United Nations to seek status as a full member state. That plan has drawn sharp criticism from Israel, and from the United States, which insist that statehood can only be achieved through bilateral negotiations.
As Obama is headed to the United Nations in New York, Rick Perry was also in New York in a pro-Israeli rally where he strongly criticized the President for his policies related to the Palestinians: From the Christian Science Monitor:

After years of holding talks with Israel in a bid to gain statehood, the Palestinians have decided on a different strategy. They say they are going to the United Nations to seek status as a full member state. That plan has drawn sharp criticism from Israel, and from the United States, which insist that statehood can only be achieved through bilateral negotiations.
As Obama is headed to the United Nations in New York, Rick Perry was also in New York in a pro-Israeli rally where he strongly criticized the President for his policies related to the Palestinians: From the Christian Science Monitor:
And, John King was beside himself with criticism that Perry was actually questioning the President's policies. He asked his guests if it is appropriate for to criticize Obama the same time that these events are occurring at the UN in the same city. Ahhh, John - yes, it is appropriate and get used to it.
John even asked Dick Cheney if this is appropriate and even though Cheney admitted he didn't see Perry's speech, he did agree that questioning Obama's policies is appropriate. He also pointed out that Obama's apologetic Middle Eastern tour when he was first elected into office showed a misunderstanding by the President of foreign policy and America's place in the world.
As for Perry's comments, this is the boldness that I like from him. Romney also had some great comments today:
Romney said, "What we are watching unfold at the United Nations is an unmitigated diplomatic disaster. It is the culmination of President Obama's repeated efforts over three years to undermine its negotiating position." He called for an end to U.S. foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority if the U.N. vote went the Palestinians' way.

What Do The Congressional Endorsements Say About Our Candidates?
From RollCall.com
I find it interesting that so many members of Congress have already made a decision. The only person that is a no-brainer is Rand Paul supporting his father. But, for everyone else, they are all going to need to come together once the nominee is chosen and support that person, so I wonder that people are putting their support out there so early.
I personally live in Rep. Michael Burgess's district, so I see that he is supporting Newt Gingrich. I love Newt Gingrich and wish he had more of a chance, but I see that is not going to happen.
