Lately there has been a lot of press about the Tea Party with the Vice President of the United States saying that members of the Tea Party had "acted like terrorists." John Kerry believes the media should censor time with the Tea Party. To be honest, I was starting to wonder if the Tea Party had morphed into some crazed entity. On Saturday, I attended an activist training put on by American Majority. There were about 70 people in attendance, most of which carried the Tea Party title proudly. Throughout the day, I was reminded what the Tea Party is.
First of all, there is no such thing as a national "Tea Party." The term represents not a political party but a movement of like-minded individuals who are actively trying to make a difference. They are conservatives and libertarians who believe in limited government, a checks and balances system, financial responsibility, and often social conservatism. Tea Partiers are active in communicating with government officials and work to get people elected who will uphold conservative values, values that were held sacred by our founding fathers.
Another important thing to remember is that Tea Partiers are your neighbors. They are normal people who are working to have their voices heard. They are not terrorists or faceless demons. So do not listen to the Joe Biden's of the world...the Tea Party members are just trying to make the world a better place. You can disagree with them and their ideology if you choose, but let's keep from throwing labels around. There are real terrorists in the world and if this administration cannot differentiate loyal Americans from those trying to do us harm, we have a bigger problem.
