Stop the Campaign!!

Okay, I don't mean to be totally cynical, but when can we expect our president to stop his campaign?  I say this because as I watched the state of the union this week, I was reminded that President Obama has been spending his entire career as president campaigning. I find myself wondering when some of these campaign promises are going to come to pass. I am waiting for him to "reach across the isle" and have "bi-partisan politics" but I haven't seen it yet.  I can't think of a time that we have been quite this divided...to the point that republicans and democrats don't even listen to what is being said. Again, I say, conservatives, we are better than this. We don't need to be argumentative for argumentative's sake!  That's not our history or our style.  We've got to find a way to motivate our president into bipartisan thinking. Any thoughts on how to do this??

Scott Brown Victory

Hallelujah! This has been a GREAT week for Americans! For those of you that have been asleep for the past few days, Scott Brown won the MA senate seat election (filling in for Kennedy) changing the dynamic of the power structure in the senate.

Now, I want to take a moment and remind conservatives that one of our strengths is that we do not go after the shinny penny. We are thinkers. We are in a world, however, that has forgotten that fact. The reason I mention this is because I am reminded of the experience I had with Sarah Palin during the election. I was THRILLED and energized at her presence and have very strong, favorable opinions for Palin (which will inevitably be in another blog), but when I think about what I want in the President of the United States, Palin doesn't quite fit the bill. Let me be clear...she is more qualified than our sitting president and his 143 working days in the senate but when I think about what I was looking for, neither she nor Obama were quite right. But Palin walked in and I had been weighed down by the ignorance of many voters and this breath of fresh air became my lifeline. (I imagine that this is what Obama was to democrats to some extent.) So while I am very excited for this recent victory and I am appreciative to have Scott Brown in the senate seat, I am not willing to put him on a pedestal and start campaigning for his presidency nomination. I, being a true conservative, am going to go back to my roots and think this through. I want to see how he will work in the office. I want to hear more about his life leading up to this election. I will not chase the shinny penny and if through this process I decide he is as good as he seems, it'll be great. If not, hopefully he'll do a terrific job as senator.

Republicans, we need to model this strategy for other Republicans and Democrats...don't just chase the shinny penny. Stop, think, analyze...have some thought to the future. If this had been done a year ago, we would have a very different country now.
